Re: 1.8HL auto - update

Oh right. So North Cowton might not be responsible for the under dash fuse holder. Mind you there is that supplementary Lucas fuse holder under the bonnet near the battery, that used to run power to a Kenlowe fan, that wasn’t needed once I got the radiator re-cored. That will probably be one of the ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update

Rick, if you’ve got time, just out of curiosity look at invoices in the history folder from North Cowton Service Station, as I’m nearly sure (but not quite) something was detailed in their invoices relating to a fuse box. Either them, or Simon J Robinson before them, who Pont.skins on this forum sai...

From this I have to assume the connections through fuse #1 have been messed around with and the the fuse box has been by-passed.

Re: 1.8HL auto - update

I might sound dissatisfied with the car. Whilst it hasn't quite met my expectations, I do really like it. You sound far from dissatisfied with it Rick! When I had my lowest points I had a right good moan about it on here! The thing that I’m sure a lot of people will find amusing, and I did mention ...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update

Rick, I bought the HL auto from Mathewsons with exactly the same attitude as you - I knew I was taking a risk buying from an auction with limited opportunities to examine the car, also I’d never purchased anything from a live auction before, let alone a classic car. And the HL did generate a lot int...

Re: 1.8HL auto - update

I must admit I never saw the tin foil coated fuse - I wouldn’t have allowed that to remain if I had! Something in my memory says whatever paperwork in the history folder tells of a replacement fuse holder being fitted, mentions the original one being ‘burned’ or ‘melted’ - possibly caused by rain wa...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

HubNut's not a bad lad. I understand why he's not to everyone's taste, but I can't help liking his videos, even the ones about the knackered Fox. I think he was a bit down on the Marina compared to the Allegro because the Allegro is stranger and less typical. The very conventional 1960s Detroit-inf...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

I watched the video yesterday. I thought Ian was a bit down on PTH at first, highlighting the negative aspects of the car, especially the "Morris Minor suspension from 1948". "Morris Minor engine" and "only four gears". I don't recall him saying anything like this when ...

Re: Petrol odours and carb performance

Thanks for your input Kilroy. The carbs, of course were 'rebuilt' (very much in inverted commas) in 2017 before I knew all the issues afflicting my car, like the blocked up tail pipe and wrong springs in the distributor, so are supposed to be unworn, but I was never completely happy with the service...

Petrol odours and carb performance

Do all our old cars smell of petrol inside when they are running? Or is it exclusively ALL the old cars I buy? My twin-carb auto has always smelled of fuel. It is less bad now than it was, because of all the things it had wrong with it when I bought it. Originally it had a weeping fuel pump, damp fl...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Yes it happens a lot now. Before the Marina I did used to rent a housing association garage in a block for a few years, but it wasn't very good and neither was the area it was in, or the housing association with their record keeping of my tenancy. In the end I was glad to get rid of it. The economy ...

Wakey wakey! IMG_20190324_133500.jpg IMG_20190324_133646.jpg These seemed pretty heavy with moisture, though not dripping like I once saw... IMG_20190324_133655.jpg This coolant leak probably didn't help, though antifreeze just seems to sit there. Traced to a loose hose clip and now taken care of, I...

Re: Brightwells Classic Sale 6th March 2019

I would like some documentary evidence that the quoted mileage is genuine, though the selling price isn't bad. But a repaint and some of those mods make me question the claimed 'low' mileage. And some of the shut lines look suspect in that rear three-quarter view.

Re: Should the coupe have looked like this?

Somebody on Facebook noticed it's got five stud alloys so the running gear is probably neither Allegro or Rover 25/45. I think it's very well finished, just altering the door handles alone and making them look factory must have involved a lot of work.
