Marina / Ital Census

Post by ClaytonSpeed » Mon Feb 11, 2013 3:32 pm

Dear FMM Users, and Marina/Ital enthusiasts

Please take a moment to complete our Marina/Ital Census.

We are trying to get as much information about cars that survive, as well as cars that may no longer be around. You may complete as many entry's as you need. One per car.

This is an independent census, however we would like to share the information with other Clubs, with your permission.

Please take 5 minutes to complete the form and help us create a picture of cars that survive.

Regards,

Ben

Will this be extended out to others who don't have internet access or aren't forum members?

I'm guessing the club records could be integrated too? I think Darren White was working on his own database as well at some stage if information from that can be accessed. I was as well but all the files were lost :(

I think keeping a record of all known surviving cars is a great idea, will also provide more realistic statistics on the survival of different marks and models.

Josh,

There is a Data Protection Act problem with sharing member information in a way that a person can be identified without their expressed permission. That's not to say that we can't share anonamous information though.

Darren was initially trying to capture TC details originally, although he did expand it. We'll need to look into how far he got with it.

You can, but hold fire until I've added another box for 'not mine' etc. it's difficult, as Chris says due to data protection etc. it would then go into the category of know of but not confirmed by owner .

I gave Darren all the Jubilee info I had.
Has anyone got access to his work?

I've added another question for "Known about but not owned by me.." etc.

We've had a really good uptake so far, as of 20:35 on the 11th February there are 11 entries in the database! Thank you!

It only takes less than 5 minutes to complete and the data will be invaluable!

Thanks!

Cheers David. I'm going to leave it open for a while as I'd like to capture a large populous. I will need to ask the different clubs if they would advertise it in mags/sites etc. I will also do up a paper version that could go out to members without Internet.. Not sure how that would work yet...

Sometime I will try and fill it in with as many cars as I can find on the internet as possible (and local ones I know of). I'm guessing files can be updated or deleted should the owner come along and write their own entry for the car?

They can yes. There may be multiples of the same car if it has gone through different owners but I can sort it once it's all in the database and run some analysis on it.

I would say though that outcomes, I.e. still on the road / scrapped would be helpful otherwise we may not know what's happened to the cars you find on the net.

It'll be interesting to see the head count, if we can add cars from pics on the Internet, as there is no way of knowing if they are still going or subsequently scrapped. Unless you plan to deduplicate against the DVLA car checker.
