how many Marinas left in Ireland?

Post by marinabuoy » Thu Jul 16, 2015 11:40 am

Was on my way up to Belfast on saturday, doing my usual anonymous white van man thing -daydreaming on the motorway, so I'd barely registered the Marina coming the other way before it was gone - blue mk1 1.3 coupe I think. Not sure if this was a local car, or maybe a visitor from 'across the water'? I've certainly not seen that particular car before, infact it must be ten years or so since I even laid eyes on any Marina at all other than my own - got me quite excited! Then got me wondering how many Marinas there actually are left in Ireland, north or south -I'd guess there can't be many at all, think the survival rate for older cars here is generally pretty low. Be interesting to hear from anyone who has cars or knows of cars in Ireland and get an idea of how many there are left here?

My orange GT went to Ireland eventually but not sure where. It should still be in the road though it was a very good car. obu 340r.

I do remember a GT being advertised for sale a couple of times, but it's quite a few years ago and I never got to see it. Think it was somewhere about the midlands, so if it was your car it would have been re-registered on southern Irish plates. I'll keep my eyes peeled though.

Spotted another Marina at the weekend whilst out buying the morning paper - that's two cars in the space of one week, both being driven on the road - after having not laid eyes on another car here for something like ten years!

Green Mk2 saloon, 1.3 - I already knew about this car as it's local to me, but I'd just never actually seen it before. Was just crossing over the road to say hello when he drove off. Decided not to go chasing off down the road after him, frantically waving my arms in the air, although it was a close one...

On my way to work this morning and finally got to say hello!

There was no one in the car when I stopped and I'd just sauntered over for a closer look when a voice from over there somewhere called out 'it's open if you want to see inside.' How many classic cars have owners who are that friendly! Didn't get to chat for long but car was owned from new by present owner's father, so he knows the 33K on clock is genuine. Nice car with just the general wear and tear you'd expect. 1.3 Special - opening quarter lights caught my eye. Apparently lives only a couple of miles down the road from me, so will be saying hello again some time.

Agree with Josh there, lovely thing. Contrasting roof sets it off nicely. It's funny how some colours make them look a lot more "classic" than others isn't it.

Anyone familiar with this car?

Another Special, '76 1.8 this time. Was brought over to Ireland (down south) about 5yrs ago, but never re-registered, so still on UK plates and hasn't really been driven here, which partly explains why there's only 15K on the clock.

I remember when it was on eBay a few times. Been resprayed I think?

Found it on here, used to belong to stuthegasman, yes he resprayed it, and had it on a nicely period looking set of slot mags.

Been looking through old posts, and seems like the 15K mileage is genuine.
So a deal has been done, and car's coming my way this weekend :-D
