Re: 1972 Special Tuning brochure

That is a cool brochure isn't it Brian? Great to see all the other cars as well as the Marinas. Motor magazine used to have a feature called Motoring Plus where Tony Dron (touring car driver best known for Dolomites) used to review tuned production cars. I have a couple, one with a stage 1 BL specia...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Well that's a bonus, tidying up the number plate/ tow bar mess and improving the looks of your car as well. I've been thinking recently that the rear styling of the SDL/DL saloon is visually one of the less successful aspects of the Marina body design. The plain panel between the rear lamp units is ...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Nice one Tim, always good to excersize them every now and then.
The back of your car looks nice, the TC trim panel and the reversing lights are cool. I reckon BL should've made that trim panel a feature of the SDL models as well as the TC.
Hope the right person comes along soon.

Re: Retro Rides- What’s It Worth?

You could have a pair of seasonal Marinas Tony. This one for summer with the roof open and HTL for winter! The sun roof would indeed be a blessing Josh! Seriously though, that would be a good idea, HTL took a lot of punishment the winter before last due to daily visits to the hospital in all ...

Re: Retro Rides- What’s It Worth?

Paint looks in amazing condition if its original; Damask is very susceptible to fading. Interesting colour coded vinyl roof.

Re: Shannons Club TV Episode 143 Leyland Marina

Just got round to watching this, it's now on youtube. Love the Bathurst 1000 car. Interesting door cards with the chrome square trim on the 1972 1750.

Re: Marina Diesel at AR Online

Yes that sounds about right, there were a lot of people building kits and "specials" back then for amateur racing and hill climbs.

Re: Marina Diesel at AR Online

Some nice old commercial stuff there too. The Leyland Super Comet looks in decent condition, as those ergomatic cabs had a reputation for rusting badly, as demonstrated by the AEC Mammoth Major also in the yard. The Bathgate G cab Terrier cab looks ok too. Nice threepenny bit cabbed horse box, i rem...

Can you remember what that silver racing car type thing was in the top picture? Looks interesting.

Re: Marina Diesel at AR Online

Wow all that stuff!! Funny people scrap dealers though. A mk1 1.3 SDL in Harvest Gold appeared in my local scrapyard a few years ago. I bought a few bits off it and asked the guy if he'd put it in the corner of the yard while I could come back and get some more, he just said "I've no interest in old...

Some footage of the yard here:

I'd would've liked to have a rummage around that place. Getting few and far between these kind of places now.

Re: Marina Diesel at AR Online

Thanks for posting that David, a fascinating and well written article. Great to see the Portugese advertisements as well, particularly the mk1 which looks more like an illustration than a photograph.
I can just imagine Marina diesel taxis lined up outside the railway stations.

Re: Air filters gfe1005 type

Ah yes, Motorcraft were the Ford equivalent of Unipart weren't they. I remember the Motorcraft man in the adverts in his white Ford overalls and shades. "Mister Motorcraft" he was called.
