Re: i drive a v8 marina

I do like that, would love some pictures showing how you routed your exhaust and what headers you used.

Re: Gearbox removal.

Getting the gearbox back in is always the hard bit.

Trouble with going too high on axle stands is you loose stability. I dont like being underneath a car at the best of times.

Re: Gearbox removal.

This job is so much easier if you take the whole assembly out.

Getting a gearbox out is not too bad but lifting it back in and trying to re align everything is a pain!!

I did this once on another car and swore I would never try it again. I think unless you have access to a pit or ramp it is no fun.

Re: *** THE TOP TEN MARINA MYTHS ***

Erm no, they are not rock hard at all.

Front double wishbone suspension with long soft coil springs and 21mm anti roll bars.

Rear has coil springs, torque tube and panhard rod. Plus rear anti roll bar.

Not only does a cavalier ride better than a marina it does handle better. Since I have both ...

Re: *** THE TOP TEN MARINA MYTHS ***

I like that. Except i would like to pick one hole in it. Number eight where the use of a cavalier from the seventies is used to descrive what bad handling is.

Well i own both the marnia and 1970's cavalier. There is no comparison. The cavalier out drives the marina every time. Sorry but it is true.

Re: Engine bits.

If I was going through the hassle of taking the head, sump, crank, rods, pistons out I would want to know the oil pump, cam and followers are ok.

In other words, either live with it, bodge it, change it or rebuild it properly.

Re: Engine bits.

To be honest have you priced up an exchange engine from one of the midget specialists. Not always as expensive as you think.

Re: Engine bits.

I didn't have to take the bonnet off with the A series engine as I have quite an expensive crane which is very slim for it's weight capacity of 2 tons. But I work on land rovers as well so needed a good one.

The bonnet has to come off for the vauxhall/opel 1800. Just because the engine is so much ...

Re: Engine bits.

I take the engine up and out rather than dropping them down. Although i cannot drop it with mine now anyway. Both have their benifits and drawbacks.

Not sure what size ramps you have to get the car high enough to drag an engine out from underneath?

Shame you live so far away as i have everything ...

Re: Engine bits.

You can hire engine cranes quite cheap for a day or two. They are not that expensive to buy either.

You can remove an engine from a marina in about 45 minutes. As long a you prepare and have everything you need to complete the job to hand.

So in reality you are looking at 2 x 45 minutes to remove ...
