Re: Lowering blocks

Another on using Escort U bolts here although I found a set of Marina blocks, I think they were abiyr . Not much point paying too much attention to what everyone else is using as it depends on how knackered your springs are! I think mine are 1.5" but with fairly stiff springs.

Re: Cam options for 1.8 B series

I've got a 285 in mine and I'm expecting it to be a bit on the lumpy side, that's with a Peter Burgess fast road head (with the factory "big valves" from the early 70's). Currently it's still in the inlaw's garage, I'll report back hopefully later this year! I've got one of the fully mappa...

The way I drive, suffice to say I won't be fitting crossplies to mine!

Re: Classic Tyres

There's an argument that old cars were designed around "classic" tyres, both widths/ profiles and tread patterns (I suppose it's a bit chicken and egg really, suspension and steering evolved alongside tyres) and therefore the cars will handle and ride best on the "correct" tyres....

Re: A question or two for josh (radio related)

Josh converted my old radio so I could plug in an iPod or phone ( though unfortunately now no good for newer iPhones with no Jack ) The sound quality through the 1970’s speakers is atrocious which I love! Just what I wanted. Authentic. [emoji6] You can get Bluetooth receivers that output to a jack,...

Re: Leaf spring shackle pin

Ahh- is it the shackle pin through the chassis leg that you're after, or one of the spring eye bolts?

Re: Leaf spring shackle pin

That's a coincidence- I was looking for them yesterday as I thought my car had had bolts fitted (turns out I'm an idiot). As Chris said- Minor ones are too narrow and the other common one to crop up in searches, Land Rover, are too wide. If you have one to use as a template it would be an easy thing...

Re: Forums or Facebook?

People answering questions incorrectly (and often then getting upset when you correct them- "well, I was just trying to help") on Facebook is a particular bugbear of mine, I guess because it's so easy to throw out an answer without thinking about it people feel compelled to answer even if ...

Re: Transport for your rally Marina

I seem to recall there's a couple surviving. Would be a brilliant camper van/ car transporters for the steam rallies but it's a little out of my budget unfortunately!

Re: Forums or Facebook?

Facebook is great for mickey taking, posting up photos of shows, reminiscing etc and has a much bigger "casual" engagement than the forum- people whose "Dad had one of them" or who were more actively involved years ago but no longer own a car. From a club's point of view as it's ...

Re: Differences between the Marina and MGB B series engine?

I remember reading that the MGBs had forged cranks and the Marina cast but I've no idea if there's any truth in it. I'm sure I've been told that not all MGB cams have pump lobes but that might have been referring to aftermarket ones. Engine mounts and oil filter plumbing (sometimes) are different to...

Re: Black and Silver Number Plates

I'm pretty sure the introduction of the rolling "exemption" for number plates in line with the historic vehicle tax class was nothing more than a mistake made by someone who had put 2 and 2 together and made 5 that they have finally decided to rectify... Don't think there's any more to it ...
