Re: Mk2 1.8 HL Automatic update

Mick my GT always sat about there so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think you will see it climb much higher.

Re: MOT exemption

I did read that in Classic car weekly a good while ago that if say a ford pop had a V8 in and Jag axle etc and you couldn't proove it had been done over 30 year ago I think it was they were on about removing their tax exempt status and wouldn't allow them to become mot exempt. On to Daves point abov...

Moggy minors, A40 Farinas all run copper pipe along the manifold.

Re: MOT exemption

I've just been looking at some of the new rules coming in and wonder how strict they will inforce oil and fluid leaks. We all know brakes, fuel and powersteering are no no's anyway but trying to keep an A series bone dry especially in a mini or metro can be quite a challenge. All my marina's are fre...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Used it for its intended purpose, carrying my autojumble stuff around and towing a trailer full of panels. Had some strange comments from people saying "You should be showing that not using it like that" Its a van and I use it for what it was built for!!!

Re: Earlpart in receivership

That is sad, I've used them a lot for remanufactured parts over the years. Not so much Marina stuff but lots of Austin 1100/1300 parts. I hope someone does take the whole company on and keep it going.

Re: Marina for a (nearly!) 18 year old?

I do think its a good enough car and solid in all the right places, it should be an easy enough project for you to do and marina's are easy cars to learn on.

Re: Marina for a (nearly!) 18 year old?

The car you are looking at is a 1700cc one, you would get cheaper insurance on a 1.3 if you can find one. I think there was a 1.3 coupe on ebay, not sure if it sold or not.

Re: 71 TC Coupe on Car and Classic

Is it not possible that its first owner could have special ordered it with the vinyl roof? I personally like that colour with the vinyl roof, sets it off nice and reminds me of my GT.

Re: Are all A Series Sumps the Same?

Hi Gareth I'm pretty sure the morris minor sump is different and I think the Maestro might be different aswell. A+ should be the same as the a series. Mgb totally different even compared to the 1800 marina but a 1275 midget might be ok but you would have to see them side by side to check bolt holes ...

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?

Are the dynamo bushes etc all ok? I know alternators are better but I used to use my A40 everyday all winter running heated screen, heater, lights etc etc and never had any problems with it. Mind I had some good roads so no hanging about which helps give a good charge at higher revs.

Re: About to tackle the gearbox, anyone got any tips?

With 2 of you it will be perfectly safe. I've done lots of 1.8s and 1.3s over the years with the front of the car on ramps and using a trolley jack to support lowering the box on my own. Never had a problem yet.

Re: About to tackle the gearbox, anyone got any tips?

I always disconnect the exhaust down pipe, gives the engine a bit more room to tilt backwards.
