Correct Oil Filter

Post by MarinaCoupe » Mon Oct 14, 2019 10:57 am

I am going to do a service on Renzo’s TC Jubilee. It has the upward facing oil filter, rather than the later hanging oil filter. The current oil filter is a Borg & Beck BFO 4085, does anyone know the Unipart equivalent part number (GFExxx), also where I can source one as many white Unipart filters seem to have dried up on eBay.

Thanks in advance.

When I stripped down my 1.8 I remember it said Halfords on it (I assume the chain Halfords and not just a coincidence brand, but I don't really know ) but I'm not sure on the number, I can find it out for you tonight though if it'll help

I may have some GFE121 in white, I will have a look.
I have a Mann filter on mine currently. I also have some of the early black yellow ones.
Shed is due for a clear out mid next week as I need to check what I have and what I don't need.

I will have a look Chris.
I was put on to the Mann filters as Chris Wilson (Jubilee owner) found that the internal valve in these held the oil in the filter very well. Some of the Unipart filters when fitted and after sitting for a while empty and then the oil pump has to fill the filter before oil pressure is reached. Which is not good.

I find the GFE121 on my MGB holds oil well unless its not been used for 3 weeks or so. I have a ignition kill switch I use as a immobiliser I switch that in allowing me to crank it until gauge shows pressure then enable the ignition.

Always a sensible precaution regardless of non return valve effectiveness. Of course if you have a mechanical fuel pump and twin SUs this safety feature is built in due to the time it takes for it to refill the float bowls...

This site gives a different Unipart number GFE422
https://www.oilfilter-crossreference.co ... CK/BFO4085

This ebay listing says "It has the Part No. BFO4085 and is the equivalent to Unipart oil filters GFE121 & GFE422."

FYI also used on Avenger, MGB, and most 70s Fords https://webcat.borgandbeck.com/PartDeta ... nfoBFO4085
