What did you do to your Marina today?

Did something today that I have waited 23 years to do, not so much as to my Marina but for my Marina. I handed in the V5C at a Post Office to change the taxation class to 'HISTORIC'.

I am one of that small band of owners who have owned their vehicles since new and I remember when the Conservative Government announced that vehicles over 25 years old would be tax exempt, without currently being to access data I believe this was early 1997. The former British Library Newspaper Library in Colindale, NW London had a copy of the Daily Telegraph article on show in one of it's display cabinets. Although at the time I had seven years to wait I looked forward to the day. And then late 1997 along came Blair's Labour Government and scrapped the scheme. And here we are now in 2020 and the moment has at last arrived. How much has this delay cost me? Don't know, must be around £2000.

I know Ian, but they needed the money probably for Iraq maybe!

Mines turned 40 this year...I have 3 other cars which would all be exempt now if the rules handy changed

A few small jobs done on Tara, replaced they ropey tie rod bushes with super flex ones, also tidied up the engine bay and arches.

I’ve sorted the loose heater controls and refoamed the drivers seat!

When the wheels were off I noticed the o/s caliper pipe was badly kinked...so a new one day we made and fitted!

And last but not least, new front bumper centre section and corner caps fitted

Was filthy after all the recent building work. So a quick clean and of to the garden centre. First run out of the year!

TONY the car looks well I think blaze suits the marina especially the TC,s with the extra chrome and stainless trim, very nice.

Went and took the Mk1 did a drive, I think I’ll keep it unless the right man comes along (or lady)

Nice one Tim, always good to excersize them every now and then.
The back of your car looks nice, the TC trim panel and the reversing lights are cool. I reckon BL should've made that trim panel a feature of the SDL models as well as the TC.
Hope the right person comes along soon.

Haha they’re actually there to cover up Where it once had a Towbar. They moved the number plate up and drilled two holes for the plate and cut holes in the valance for the bar! Was a right mess

Well that's a bonus, tidying up the number plate/ tow bar mess and improving the looks of your car as well.
I've been thinking recently that the rear styling of the SDL/DL saloon is visually one of the less successful aspects of the Marina body design. The plain panel between the rear lamp units is crying out for some detail, even a good old GB sticker is an improvement. The coupe doesn't suffer as much in this respect as the nice curves at the ends of the boot lid draw the eye away from the blank space below. However the plain saloon boot lid lacks this element of styling. Under-riders fitted on the rear bumper add some interest too, but your TC style solution is the best I've seen.

Taken Tara to have the rear wheel bearings done and a oil and filter change plus axle oil in an attempt to stop the droning.

Then it’s on to the front end

After eight weeks today I received a letter from the DVLA returning my completed V5C ('tax class' = HISTORIC, dated and signed) , it states:-

Thank you for telling us that you want to change the tax class of your vehicle to Historic.
Before we can change the tax class of your vehicle you will need to re licence your vehicle in the Historic tax class.
To do this, I have enclosed a V10 (application for vehicle tax) for you to fill in and return with original documents

A V10 form was not enclosed, as far as I am aware there is no mention of this requirement on the DVLA website and the Post Office employee was aware of my reason for handing in my V5C but made no mention of the need for a V10 to be completed.

I contacted the DVLA by webchat, which lasted for a staggering 1 hour and 9 minutes, they are insistent that the V10 must be completed.

Anyone else come across this requirement, I suspect the error was made in the Post Office?
