I dont understand someone running car dry of oil!! Shows the importance of at least having the oil light working this will flash on during cornering and braking as oil moves around in the sump when you get momentry oil starvation due to low oil level. I did notice on the head gasket video she cleaned the piston crowns, this is a big no no as it will cause oil burning this is especially true of A series the carbon on the pistons help with sealing. The pistons did look washed prior to cleaning of the crowns thus indicating a long standing oil consumption fault

A young lad that lived near me got his first car and ran it out of oil, wrecked the engine and as it was is first car ( read banger ) he scrapped it.
A couple of weeks later with his second car he asked me to look at it as it wouldn’t start.
It wouldn’t even turn over though all seemed ok electrically.
I checked the oil-probably more to see if it had any in after the last car.
To prevent the problem he had with his first car, he’d filled it up with oil. Completely up with oil. Right to the very top......

I bought it knowing there was an engine problem, as I was going to rebuild it anyway.

Have we established that lack of oil is what happened on Steph’s car? Or is that conjecture?

I've seen it mentioned that the car rapidly haemorrhaged oil just before it seized, but no mention of where from. I think she intends to rebuild the existing engine, so hopefully that sheds some light on what happened internally.

Yes she did mention the loss of oil. In a later video she said she had a look around the engine bay and couldn't figure out what exactly happened.

Meanwhile I do wish she would take the opportunity to sand and touch up the body a bit at least, while the car is stopped. It seems to be degrading fast

Ola, I'm sure I've mentioned copious times online recently that sorting the paint is a job for this summer. It's got a slot to get professional help, so hopefully by year end she'll look tidier.

Much to my annoyance of now having no Marina for nearly a month, I am in the process of getting professional help in rebuilding the engine.

I was going to attempt it myself but lost a lot of confidence after the seizing engine, so the plan is to get it done professionally and then put it back in. Needless to say I'm tidying the engine bay up enormously at the same time with all the bells and whistles.

It's going at a slow pace, but I'm trying to do it properly and as time allows. She's an excellent car and I'm affording her care and attention in keeping with that.

I never intended to keep her past last spring - whoops.

Also, not to sound like a clickbait troll, but I'm saving the whole 'OMGWHATHAPPENED' moment for an upcoming video - but thankfully it wasn't my fault relating to the head. A professional's diagnosis was sought; not something I've cobbled as an opinion myself.

She was indeed burning oil prior to rebuild, but that wasn't anything I wasn't aware of. I was topping the thing up most weeks.

Also in case anyone thought I'd neglected the oil light, it never came on! I'd checked the oil circa 40 miles previously and topped it full - so really, really perplexed by the whole thing.

Needless to say, although it's moving at a glacial pace (mainly due to my busy life elsewhere), it's getting done and most importantly for the future of the car, done properly.

Welcome. Glacial progress happens, it's not a small job by any stretch of the imagination. Im just glad you're progressing on a repair. I watched the latest video and totally feel your pain with removing the engine, I've never found that job fun.

Looking forward to seeing the next update, and hopefully finding out what caused the failure.

Ahh, thanks so much! I honestly thought the engine rebuild would be a quick job (hahahahahah) having usually gone for a quick 'rubbish engine for a rubbish engine' swap over on the Morris Minor whilst at uni. I thought this time I'd do it properly because it's a special car and I genuinely like spending money on it. It's also been a huge learning curve from start to finish! I've started cleaning up the engine bay now, but again, not a quick job because it's got to be done properly. I'd rather wait a few more weeks than rush through it all and regret the cut corners.

I said touch up not sorting the paint :P something temporary against the rust
