Not sure that will do it? Lots of Waxoyl mixed with grunge etc.
Have got a new ring and seal but want to try and get old one off without mauling. ( cos I'm weird like that)Image

Tried again, in vain, to get the ring to move but to no avail. Am just bending the lugs. Have given up because I need to use the car due to the stupid fuel situation. (Idiots are queuing up to fill tanks and effectively hoarding fuel)
Day car has run out, and as Marina has a smidgen will use to get to work on Monday.
Am presently turning up a disk to use in the construction of a fuel sender ring removal tool. Time consuming but I like making my own contraptions.
Will finish tomorrow and see if that does the trick :)

Thanks for the picture of the lock ring spanner. I've designed something similar based on google images but with removable lugs, in case I need it for another, unrelated, purpose.
Just found the rear windscreen heater is not working. Came out of the Indian restaurant to find the car covered in dew Think it is the switch so guess I'll be looking at that tomorrow.
Oh the joys of classic car ownership :)

Yes, crazy situation made worse by the media. Had to take my daughter to uni in Southampton over the weekend, Marina fully loaded with her stuff and the rest of the family, Spent the whole 440 mile round trip worrying about where to find fuel!

That was brave!
Was supposed to go on a motorcycle run up to the North Norfolk coast but cried off due to the petrol situation. Good job I did - putting the bike away the clutch went :o

Well have been using Kermit for the daily commute to work this week. Found a few more niggles to sort out.
Front suspension/steering has developed a squeak and is stiff, so suspect needs greasing. Any other suggestions?
One good thing, managed to get petrol yesterday so topped up. To my surprise only required £11 to fill. Thought it would need more. ( am I going to accused of being a hoarder)
Lots of thumbs up and smiles when driving around and work colleagues intrigued!

It's a good idea to keep the trunnions and upper ball joints well greased. Not sure that will cure the squeak though. Sometimes it can be difficult to pinpoint squeaks, especially when you"re driving.
Good that you found petrol, I can't believe the situation hasn't been resolved yet.
You'd better get used to the car getting lots of attention! Everytime I park there"s usually someone who starts remeniscing about a Marina that they or their parents used to have.

Grease the trunnions asap. They will seize up. They should be done every 3,000 miles without fail.

Done! A task postponed from yesterday cos of the rain.
When grease was forced in water was forced out so I suspect trunnions will need replacing. But for the moment steering has eased up nicely and squeaks gone ( for now). When I get my regular steed home will attack that sender unit.Image

I replaced my trunnions recently in preparation for JOGLE. Greased annually normally ( less than 2000 miles ) I had a little play in one so decided to swap them ( legs where in very good condition)
Packed with grease, screwed on and then pumped with grease again, it’s amazing how much lighter the steering is.
Just greasing via the nipples is notoriously poor as the new grease just takes the route of least resistance and not necessary where it’s needed.

When running one as a daily grease every week, annually pump grease through with them on on each lock to try and refresh. When replacing trunnions did the pack with grease approach described above. Think it worked as don’t remember any issues. Did use a lot of grease though.

Yes, as others have said if it has got to the stage where the steering has gone noticeably heavier pumping in through the grease nipple might not be enough to catch it before it partially seizes. I'd strongly recommend stripping them down and regreasing them ASAP to prevent failure. If it's got this bad chances are the pins etc will be rusty so worth investing in a new pair with new pins just in case. Sadly, the standard trunnion with one grease nipple doesn't get grease everywhere it needs to go. The Walford type trunnion (available through the Club- contact David Balme) designed for worn legs also has an additional grease nipple halfway up the thread.

On my daily car (with Walford trunnions) I regrease around once per month.

Can you remove the trunnions without full disassembly, ie: removing rotor and back plate?

No it won’t turn without the backplate off.
