Salts' a pure Marina (and every other 1970's and 80's car) killer, but the council don't just put rock salt down during the winter, oh no, they also put down this other kind of salt called KCL, this stuff is really nasty, even more corrosive than standard salt, it's pink in appearance and about 10 times cheaper than regular rock salt, little known fact, but true!!! My Marina stays off the road from November to March, either garaged or parked up the side of my house. The best thing though you can do to stop your Marina rusting is respray it! I'm beginning to realise the reason why most Marinas rusted into oblivion, it's the poor quality of the original BL paint, its crap! When I lifted the rubber flooring on mine (carpet for the rest of ya! ) I saw that huge chunks of the paint were loose on the floor and simply peeled away in sheets almost, and it was definately the original BL stuff, of course it's been fixed, I used the appropriate colour of hammerite on the floor, keeps it nice and waterproof as well, fortunately though it hasn't caused me a rust problem since my car seems to be quite dry inside, but I would recommend if you haven't done so already to get the floor covering up on your Marina and check it front to back both sides to check for moisture, rust and flaking paint, because it will eventually bite you in the ass if its ignored!

thanks for the offer of the trailer Ray but the chap selling the car lives in the same town as me and has agreed to get it from Carlisle where it has been in it's garage since 1995 and bring it down so that's another marina to add to the ecosse fleet, can't wait to bring it to some shows :D :D
