When some silly B***h ran into the back of one of our SD1's at a junction the insurance said they couldn't arrange repair as the parts were no longer listed on their database ( this despite Rimmers having everything available ) . I told them that I wouldn't let them right it off as it had taken six years to find a manual Turmeric yellow one to go with the auto and I'd had a 250 mile round trip to pick it up . The result was an offer of payment instead of repairs which I accepted after negotiation .As I was going to do some bodywork and respray the car anyway and had all the parts needed as ' come in handy's ' it was a good deal .

Don't let them push you around and dictate . Their client is at fault and they should do whatever they can to satisfy you .

Good luck with it.
Mike

yep agree with Mike, I work in insurance and they have to make sure you are in the same position after the accident as you were before ie no finanical loss, and with enough cash to buy a similar car in same condition, this can sometimes prove difficult esp with classics, but do not let them bully you or offer less than what it would cost to repair/replace.. the more infor you have regarding your car the spares situation etc will aid your claim, Good Luck

in Australia we have 3 specialist classic car insurers and with them if your
car is written of YOU have first choice over the "wreck", and you then get paid out.
like my red mk1 marina with the dolly engine, someone ran up the back of us at an intersection
not much damage maybe a little more than in this case but totaled $1500 for a $1200 car
so i ended up with the wreck and $1200 and a quick word to my panel beater and it was fixed
for around $600 and back on the road
