It's a pity you sold the estate Patrick, you could probably have got everything you needed to fix her up :rolls:

To be honest the auto jumble was quite small compared to previous years. I guess the weather didn't help

Peterborough - BMC / BL Rally & Spares Day

Post by MarinaCoupe » Sun Aug 05, 2012 6:51 pm

Thanks to everyone for coming today, in what was a very wet day, 29 cars is a good showing given the weather. Not quite as bad as Flixton but not far off.

Lots of Marina stuff in my opinion, including several things that I didn't know I needed until I saw them.

Got home OK after a 3 hour drive with 2 wee stops which is not bad for 120miles and a slow go passed M3 as normal :rolls:
Only wet in Peterborough, as soon as I left Nene park is was great, dry and sunny all the way home :rolls: :rolls: :rolls: :rolls:
Weather was a shame as I think everyone is getting fed up with the rain.
Hats of to Sean (ADO28) for coming that distance and only getting rain, its just not on but great to see him there
Well done to Gary for bring his Mumford - Brave  Plus finding a dry spell to work on a replacement seal kit for the clutch slave

Also seeing TC Torryn's car for the first time, great wheels, sorry I did not get to chat but must ask you about the rear lamp seals

Do you mean the clutch slave in Gary's car? :eh:

If so then I put a new seal kit on there :eh:

Well the slave gave him problems and he had no clutch part the way to Peterborough so I guess so!
Did you sell it with a guarantee?

How strange!

Never had any signs of a leak or anything when I was using it in JWC everyday, must have got damaged when it was being fitted to the Mumford or something :problem:

Josh, don't have a panic attack, I bled it out at Peterborough as the rain break I had was only about 10 -15 mins. I drove the car home with no problems at all  . It is possible that there may have been an airlock :-? but I doubt it as there was a definate loss of fluid. The only other thing that I can put it down to is the change of fluid, dot4, which you were using to, dot5 which I am using. I have been told that you are supposed to change the seals as the two react with each other, not sure how true this is but it's a possibility. I will now use the car every time I can and see how it goes ;)

I'm beginning to think everything on JWC was cursed :rolls:

Glad you got it going alright. I hope you are careful with fluids around your bodywork  Or is DOT5 not so bad on paintwork? Been thinking about using it myself as Ducky now has all new seals throughout....

Hi guys,Garys slave cylinder had definatley leaked as when he started his car up to go home it looked like he was having a BBQ in it ;) ,but it was all the brake fluid burning off on the exhaust.
Hope he got home ok with it what a nice car! 8-)
It was nice to see so many faces again and talk Marina :ugeek:
nice to meet sean(ado28)and tony(screaminglordstokes)again to have a good chat with!!
my partner and daughter didn't want come this year so it was a boys day for me and i brought my son and father for a ride instead, lots more time to talk cars with no girls moaning at me!! ;)
Shame about the weather,in all the years ive been going to peterborough can't remember it being this wet.
Got back to Lincoln,cleaned/polished and hovered car out(wet grass everywhere)and took my everyday marina out of garage, swopped all my gear/stock/parts i bought over, put my yellow one in,covered her up,shut the garage door and it started to rain again,so least shes clean and dry again.then headed home to market rasen in the other one.
Best regards
Barry

Dot5 is silicon based josh and does not attack your paintwork. It does, however, need to be changed more regularly than Dot4 as the properties in it are not as high as Dot4. It really shouldn't make a great deal of difference in a classic car due to the low mileage that they do. ;) The gearbox issue is put on hold at the moment thanks to kindly old gentleman down the road. This guy has been popping past every now and again to find out how I'm doing with the car. I told him about the problem and he left. Saturday morning he knocked on the door and handed me a bottle and some instructions. Needless to say the noise is no longer there. Don't ask me what it is as he won't tell me, but I have found out that he used to work for BL. Possibly a cure for a long standing problem, he did say that it should last for about 10 - 15 thousand miles. 4-5 years then

Sorry Barry just after reading the bit above have I realised who you are. Thanks for the seal kit mate, it's a great help even if it's not fitted at the moment ;)

DOT 5 silicone fluid is not hydroscopic so never needs changing Gary!
Where DOT 4 absorbs water so needs changing.

DOT 5 OK with paint, DOT 4 removes it :D

DOT 5 bloody expensive :shifty:
