Earlpart in receivership

Post by MarinaCoupe » Thu Mar 22, 2018 3:17 pm

Many of you will have read that Earlpart in Derby have gone into voluntary liquidation after the owner has been unable to continue due to illness.

I contacted the Receiver on behalf of the club to see whether it would be possible to buy their Marina & Ital spares stash and have received a reply that all the Earlpart parts stock have been purchased by one business. No name given, but hopefully they will reappear in another business’s online inventory. If we hear anything more, I’ll post here.

Although I've only used them occasionally hearing that they've gone into liquidation isn't great news. Though I had wondered from time to time how old the proprietor Neil was, since he was pretty mature when I first had dealings with him in 2007, and had a brief tour of his restoration workshop.

That is sad, I've used them a lot for remanufactured parts over the years. Not so much Marina stuff but lots of Austin 1100/1300 parts. I hope someone does take the whole company on and keep it going.

That's sad news. I've used Earlpart many times, still do.

Update - the business and premises have been sold to the same guy. No news whether it will re-open there or elsewhere.

I've just seen a post on the Old Classic Car forum that the business has been bought by a David Kingerley and will be trading from April or May, but they aren't sure under what name.

Thats good, I think he will. I've bought stuff of David over the years too, he is often at the big autojumbles.

The fate of Earlpart is on the front cover of the latest issue of Classic Car Weekly. They say David Kingerly plans to reopen the business on site. However he won't continue to manufacture exhausts, and he is going to focus mainly on Austin County models and Farinas. The article says he is not certain about continuing to support Allegros, Maxis, 1800s and Marinas because (quote) "They are well supported by owners clubs". The article also says he has offered the tooling that Earlpart held for making new ADO16 front wings, to the owners club.

I have been chatting to David, he says that he will continue to stock some Marina parts, what parts exactly he wasn’t clear about.

He was saying that the old Earlpart had three guys working on exhaust manufacture full time, but they never got the business they needed to make it pay, so they increased the charges on other parts to cover the cost of the exhaust guys.
