Loving the Unimog, that's the very definition of overkill!
Well done on getting it home, now for the fun part...

I loved the tow truck too, thought it was better than the norm..

.
Started to strip it out today for welding and sort out all the rubbish in it. Couldn't do as much as I wanted as it got dark quick and my other Marina required some maintenance before college tomorrow and a drive to Ipswich Saturday. Didn't get round to fully fixing it but found out I need a new shock absorber

..great..Oh well.

Today I went to get a load of spares for the car (£500s worth). Didn't get everything but got a lot to keep me busy for a while. Need to go back to cut done lumps off a car in his garden for mine.
I'll hopefully get some bits done on it tomorrow before a show I'm going to

.

Time for another update for the last few days of work

The car is now on axle stands ready for the majority of the work to begin. The wheels were then removed and I spent a good amount of time getting rid of dirt from the arches, headlamp panels etc. I then removed the fuel tank (shearing 3 bolts that wouldn't budge in the process

) and the whole exhaust system. Found out today that the fuel tank has pin holes all over it so if anyone has an early mk1 saloon fuel tank they could sell me that would be awesome

.
Me and my brother have very nearly stripped out the entire interior for welding to start. Unfortunately, I have found more rot now to the rear valance, back of the floor where the rear seat bottom goes and where the driver seat belt bolts onto the inner sill

. Starting to wonder if all this work is worth doing considering how rotten it's looking.
I have also removed nearly all the rubber hoses from the engine, clutch hose, radiator, thermostat and some other bits that need replacing. Annoyingly, the engine is still seized so I may be taking the head off soon.
I think that is everything I've been up to. Pictures will follow soon

Excellent, sounds like you're getting proper stuck in

I have a spare cylinder head if you ever need it. I have a tank but it's also full of pin holes unfortunately.. they do pop up on eBay now and again. Cant wait to see pics

I certainly am, my hands are always covered in oil now

. I'll keep that in mind, thanks

. I do keep looking on eBay but with no luck at the moment, in no rush though. I would do the pics now but they're all on my brothers iPod or I forgot to take them

. I have pics of all the spares I have though

, but I'll post them with the others

Been some breakers recently but not early Mk1- don't know what differences in tanks. E.g.
MK 2

Chances of finding an early tank are very slim. Most of mine have lost their early tanks- they rot badly. You can fit a later one but will have to drill a hole in the boot for the later breather to pass up by the filler neck rather than through the early breather.

Looks like I'll be doing some drilling (or just pushing my finger into the body to make a hole

). Thanks for the info Josh, you're always helpful

. I'm not too experienced with MK1s but that'll all change soon

. Would you have a tank you'll be willing to sell at all?
Thanks,
Alex

				Hi Morris_Carl,
Sorry for not replying sooner but as always everything's been happening and I haven't had time to do what I want/need to. Just sent him a message so we'll see what he says.
Sorry again,
Alex
