Been talked about before but why didn't the coupe morph into a hatchback? Would have made a very useful addition to the family!

The Maestro hatchback and Montego saloon was originally slated to be launched in 1978, so further development of the Marina range was thought unnecessary. As it turned out BL was pretty broke so they slowed Maestro/Montego development and for the same reason there was no money for the Marina, beyond tinkering with grills, bumpers & tail lights. First the minimal changes for the Mk3 Marina, which then gave them time to produce the Ital. The Ital was finally withdrawn as the Maestro/Montego was launched in 1984.
