Brake servo - replace or repair?

Well I attempted to dissasemble the master cylinder and it's just one mass of rust. I don't think it's worth saving.

So the hunt is on for an alternative. After a lot of Googling i found the GMC234 which is used on the TR6. It is designed to be mounted at an angle, and the bore is 20.3. I bit larger than the cylinder used on the Marina but probably not disastrously so.

It also has the advantage that the servo it is used with (still available new) looks pretty much identical to that used on the Marina.

A late Sherpa LDV cylinder will fit, but again bore is larger/. Which will mean less pedal travel but also less brake pressure as brake hydraulic pressure is inversely proportional to mater cylinder bore size.

Hi Robin, that pedal box had been out of a car for many, many years and i did say I had no idea of the condition of things internally but I do feel bad that the condition of it is so poor inside so I have refuned you some of the money to help out with the parts you are going to need to get it sorted out.

Hi Chris - yes it's all still there. I think I am going the TR6 route but you are welcome to it if it would be useful to you. I must admit, when faced with the oodles of rust that fell out when eventually managing to get the reservoir off, plus the fact I couldn't even get the pin out that sits under one of the reservoir ports (first step according to Haynes), I decided to call it a day. Someone with more experience and persistance than me might be succesful in dismantling it further.

Thanks Robin - that will definitely go again. I get the bores lined in stainless steel and the two part pistons, seals, springs etc replaced (hence the cost). I’ll pm you.

The TR6 servo and master cylinder arrived today. Pretty much a perfect fit other than the servo needed packing out about 6mm. Temporarily done with washers but I willl make a proper spacer. The angle of the reservoir on the master cylinder is identical to that of the standard Marina one so fluid level should be good. I do like it when a plan comes together

I should mention that the marina pedals are shortened for use in the Marlin and someone has drilled go-faster holes in them
