Remaining GT's

Post by lofc2909 » Wed Jun 15, 2022 11:19 am

I know this particular car in the ebay ad below has been discussed before on here as to whether it's a genuine GT or not, but I'm interested in the bit about there only being 3 left.

I've got 1, I believe Baz's Ital fronted one is a GT and I was offered one last year that had been dug out of a barn (I didnt buy it as I didn't have the room for another weldathon project!). If you count the one in the advert, that makes 4 but surely there's more than that left?

Has anyone else on here got a Mk2 1.8 GT? Or is it really the rarest variant left?

I know a guy that has three.

I think he is asking quite a lot when you see how much is missing , the vinyl roof the spot lamps out of the grille the rubber on the bumper and the under riders it hasn't got the black door mirrors.

Did all GT’s have vinyl roofs? I’ve seen another one in sand glow like mine and it doesn’t have one.

I think all GT and HLs had Vinyl roofs? Plus TCs MK1s after 1973.

There are certainly more than 10 GTs surviving. As with the MK1 TC models, the saloon variant (HL) is rarer. The rarest Marina variant is the 1.8 Deluxe saloon with only three known survivors.

I think the GT I had is still alive in Ireland. The last photos I saw of it it was still on its UK number plates but doing a check on it now it just shows as exported. It was in excellent condition so should still be alive unless its had an accident.
