Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Visited the engine reconditioner on Saturday. Some nice MOPAR cars and a '60s Chevy pickup in the workshop. My engine block and head looked puny next to a big-block V8 on the workbench.
Turns out my cam has been reground at some time, their cam guy said it had been ground to 220 degrees. Got a bit confused until I learnt they use the American method of measuring duration at .050" lift, rather than off the base circle like the English. Took a bit of research to work out how the two numbers relate, but looks like the stock MGB/Marina TC 252 degree cam has 214 degrees at .050", so my 220 cam would be in the 260-270 degree range. Probably just get that polished up, rather than get it reground to 280 as originally planned.
Might also explain why previous owner couldn't get the engine to run properly, if it still had original distributor advance curve and carburetor needles.

Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Had a nice drive in my 1.8 saloon from Claughton along the A171 to Whitby, calling in at Robin Hoods Bay on the way back.
A lovely, fast, quite challenging road with some tight, steep twisting S bends and long sweeping descents followed by full power hills.
A good test for both car and driver.
(Nice chocolate eclair from Botham's bakery in Whitby too).

What’s up with the engine Kev?
Re: What did you do to your Marina today?
Well when it had its 1st maiden voyage up to the bury nats a few years ago, it seemed to using more oil than fuel!! so I guess I suspect a piston ring/rings have given up! by the time it got back to Devon it was running like a bag s**t! but thing it the engine was locked up solid when me and balmy dragged it out of that London garage a few years ago. but I’ll get it sorted and she’ll be back to full health again!

It would be good to get 3-4 Jubs together at nextyear’s Nationals.
