The guy selling the engine was a nice chap. We had a good time pulling it apart. Finding the oil looking more like blocks of clay and one of the cylinders full to the top with white dusty remains of the carburettor was quite amusing

I've been collecting parts for the cars over the last week or so

. Still need more bits on the list though and time to fit them

Bought a copy of Wheels Australian Motoring Yearbook 1975, for the road test of the Leyland Marina 262. Leyland Australia followed BL's example and sent poor pre-production examples to the press, so it was descibed as "has good looks, sparkling performance, outstanding economy and handles like a drunken ballerina on rough surfaces". :-(

Yep, hopefully it'll be a straight forward rebuild

. Need to have a look at welding stainless steel soon which will be fun

. Although there was nothing wrong with PDA's plugs and thermostat when I was driving it in 2017, I thought I may as well fit new parts to rule out any issues as much as possible, as I don't want to have to pull it all to bits again if something didn't want to work!

Well at least you had a laugh about it! It didn't look that terrible in the photos... bad, but not that bad. Had he been keeping it in a salt water swamp?!

I did not do anything to any of my Marinas today, but I had an unexpected visitor.
This is the first and only UK coupe I have ever seen in NZ.
An unrestored TC even.
What a fabulous car - I love it.
Owner has lowered it 1" and widened the original rims by about the same amount.
He has also fitted one of my Mk3 ARB's which has improved cornering immensely according to him.
He moved the rear shocks to mount outboard of the spring shackle plates and up inside the wheel arch, using longer and heavier shocks. Same result as turreting but simpler to achieve.
Makes me want to start on my coupe...

Hmmm.
I presume you can see the images while I cannot.
No photos of the shock mounting although I did eyeball the lower mounts.
Top used a plate to spread the anchor load to the inner guard, and the two bolts ended up fore and aft of the rear seat back bracing.

I have found that the image loading issue is because the forum defaults to websites using "https" where my sites only use "http".
Once I viewed them by removing the "s" they all appeared.

So that's nice...

Then they disappeared again.

Which isn't...

I can see them if I right click on the "x" and then click "show picture"... Agree with Chris, it looks lovely, nice subtle mods.

OT- do you know of a supply of trunnions down there Kilroy? I've been contacted by a chap who needs a pair (well, one, but I suggested that he took a pair).

Matt - have not seen any for some time.
They occasionally pop up on Trademe, and there may be a RH item there right now, but the LH is always the one people need most.
I have a pair that look unlike any I am used to. They are Marina but from an unknown manufacturer.
I am keeping them for now...
