As I suspected Starter motor and Alternator dodgy on "Kermit the Flog".
Removed and serviced by local Auto Factor and now back in. Kermit starts first clck!
Also replaced the Rocker Cover gasket as it was leaking. No wonder, the cover was hardly screwed down and no gasket sealant present.

Satisfying getting parts reconditioned isn't it, a kind of antidote to today's throwaway society.

Took the cylinder head off my saloon to the machine shop:

Felt this valve go while driving along the A61 last week, with a sudden loss of power climbing a gradient. Managed to get home, then a compression test confirmed the fault was with number 3 cylinder. Thought that as the car has just ticked over 100k I might as well have some new valve guides, valves and springs fitted while the head is off.
Lucky really as a couple of weeks ago we were in Scarborough and drove to Whitby a couple of times and to Robin Hood's Bay, with the car running lovely.

Certainly is.
Still got to sort out a nasty clunk on the nearside front suspension but have finished my tent for "Kermit the Flog".
At least it will be kept relatively dry!

A clunk only on the nearside is usually the steering rack bush. The original bushes wear and break up, the knocking is the end of the rack rod moving up and down inside the rack housing as the steering arm moves up and down following the suspension. Because the steering rack is mounted to the bulkhead, it resonates through into the cabin.

The way to test it is to turn the steering full right hand lock, get your hand in behind the wheel/tyre and get a firm grip on the track rod and see if you can waggle it up and down relative to the end of the rack housing. If it’s worn you will hear the familiar knocking noise.

Thanks for the info. Will check that out. Hope it is that as it seems a fairly simple repair!
Took "Kermit the Flog" for a nice run to the Waveney Valley yesterday. Ran impeccably, ( except for the knock ) but half way home the indicators stopped working.
Spent 2 hours tracing fault - flasher units, indicator switch, wiring, fuses. No luck!
Looked again today, with a tester, and would you believe it - twas a fuse which looked OK but had burned out at the cap end, not the middle as designed to!
Is always the simplest thing !!!!!!
Whilst checking this fault, found a couple of other niggles. Loose ignition switch (held on by tape), and a damaged fuse carrier. Nothing big but will need to be done.
Sigh - never ends :-D

Drained the oil and took the sump off my saloon. Thought I'd give it a good clean out, also removed the oil pump strainer to clean as well. Worst part was scraping the old gasket off the sump, must've been stuck on with Hylomar.
Will check the oil pump for wear, although I'd like to keep the nice Holborn Eaton original rather than the no-name (probably Chinese) aftermarket replacement I've got.

Took the Coupe to the Shropshire Show entered in the Classic Vehicle Section came away with a Platinum Jubilee Rosette was well happy with that Its been a combined show with what was the West Mid Agricultural Show as post Covid last year both shows had become to small. Worked well this year it made a good show with even a Hawker Hurricane fly over display. I had a busy day assisting with Sheep Judging in the Morning and helping on the Classic cars in the Afternoon an enjoyable day was had by all weather was fab too. got a Small local show on Wednesday evening at High Ercall not sure have time to clean it again though as dusty from yesterday evening. Its always a good Social evening though a mix of classic and modern vehicles few tractors there even a local lad brings down his Tank

Sounds like a super day David, congratulations for winning a rosette! I'd have loved to see the Hurricane flypast, haven't seen one flying for quite a while (did see a Dakota fly over the other day though).
Mixed shows are nice aren't they? Especially if you've got all the family in tow.

Have acquired some Walford Trunnions so when they arrive will get onto replacing the existing ones!
"Kermit the Flog" now has a little home to keep it a tad dryer.
As space is a little limited had to cobble one up from "Conduit"

Nice garage there! Good to get Kermit under cover (although I thought it might prefer being damp!)

Gave my daughter a lift to her work placement today, then took the missus out into Derbyshire for a picnic. Nice to have the car back on the road now that the cylinder head is sorted.
