Hi folks I waited about 6 weeks for a log book to come through as there was no paperwork with the car
I thought great go and get it taxed its 73 free road tax..... Oh no it isn't the post office said log book came back wasn't historic
Sent log book back 4 weeks later dvla tell me they didn't receive it it's been lost they are sending another log book out 3-5 days am I understanding this correctly that I can take the log book to the post office fill it out as historic get free tax and they will send log book back to get changed seem to be going around in circles at the minute

That's exactly what happened to me when I went to register REP as historic! DVLA said they never received the V5 and said that the post office deals with it. They sent me a new one, I then went to the post office and the lady at the counter kept the V5 to send to DVLA now signed Historic It was loads of bother as I had to wait for the new V5 before going to the post office to tax it.

When I changed my MG to Historic Tax the lady at my local post office just changed it for me.Gave me my free tax and sent V5C off for me. Came back quickly too was a vary painless process.

You'd think that nowadays with all the details being computerised that you'd be able to change the classification online when your tax is due for renewal.

Yeh, my fault really. I didn't think the post office was where you change taxation class Just seemed a sort of a big thing that only DVLA were authorized to do. The post office was cool enough, it was DVLA I had trouble with. Took ages to get a new V5.

I'm glad our equivalent of the DVLA has automated the historic taxing, and applies it automatically on the 1st of January to every vehicle that is at least 40 years old, and sends out the renewal notice with the lower price when the rego is due.

Post office wouldn't change mine, had to send v5c and letter from the club to Swansea. Haven't heard a thing back yet so hope its not lost, thats why I think they should have kept the local offices. You could get things changed straight away then while talking to someone face to face.
