Recently fitted the 2.0 camshaft to my 1.7 Ital, this week I changed the needle and spring and installed some colder plugs and set up the timing and tickover, she idles lovely at 750-800.

Subjectively, she feels very torquey and peppy. A quick trip up the local dual carriageway, showed 70 mph very quickly, with lots of more to come, traffic was heavy so I couldn’t take it any faster. Next stop the rolling road and a decent run out to checkout the fuel economy or lack of it.

Yep looks like a cylinder gone but seems it is the Master. Weeping around spindle and no fluid in pot! B*mmer!

Correct.
I did a bit more "grubbing" about and have ascertained it is the Master Cylinder. It appears the fluid doesn't get to the carpet on my Marina but there feels like a orifice the fluid might be leaking down. Anyway damp round the cylinder and an accidental "taste", not recommended & with much spitting after, confirmed.
Nasty stuff Brake Fluid! :-D
