Heater switches/toggle bars broken

Post by Lecozens » Mon Apr 24, 2017 7:44 pm

Evening all, it's been a while since I posted but am in need of help.

In my exuberance this evening to have a cool flush of air on my feet I've broken the toggle bar thing (I'm sure it has a correct name) on my dash board.

From what I can tell the cable behind has detached itself from the toggle bar.

How do I get the knob off off of the end so I can take the fascia off (picture below)? I don't really fancy breaking anything else tonight....

Also do I need to take the cigarette lighter off to remove the fascia? If so how do I do that?

Sorry for asking questions that are probably quite easy to do.

Heater knobs come off by lightly pushing up under neath in the hole under the knob. Should freely come off when enough pressure applied in the hole with a small screwdriver. Dont force the screw driver in the hole in case you break off the tab in the plastic heater lever
Yes cig lighter will have to come off too. This means disconnect battery (For safety) and pull off centre contact (Purple wire) and the wire on the side spade terminal.
Then unscrew outer of the cig lighter from the back. A pain to do but just take time and care.

Thanks jubileenut
I had a horrible feeling the lighter would need to come off.
Just a curious one, the green light thing, should it do anything?

That's to tell you your heated rear window is on!

Has the slider bar actually broken or has it just detached from the small plastic piece the cable connects too? There is a small piece of plastic with a spring connected to the slider which can sometimes come off. Not sure what it's purpose is but if the heater box has a seized vent flap or it gets caught on the carpet it comes off rather than breaking the slider.

I think it's just come off, haven't had the fascia off yet due to working late but will be having a look over the next few days.
