Rallying, 12 cars, Scatters, Classic events etc

Post by Mick » Thu Apr 08, 2010 11:29 pm

I have had a brainwave.. I think. I have done a few scatters and 12 cars in the past in a Manta GTE and had a damn good time doing so.

I built a decent competetive car with cage and made it as much as I could a rally car but keeping within the rules (only outer light wired up 4 beams etc )and a few years ago but due to divorce, losing my storage and drinking heavily for a year it didnt happen and sold it.

I then bought an Opel Ascona Caged it, did all the brakes and suspension and then again change of plan, moved house new Girlfriend and no time I ended up selling it.

Now is it a good omen to try again now things have settled starting with a 1.8 saloon which is tatty pretty much worthless as it is but is a solid shell.

What would be a quick easy set up to make it handle a bi t (lot) better, cant lower too much as the whites will catch the bottom. Alloy sump guard and internal fuel and brake pipes are easy enough left the exhaust etc. I have harnesses and looking at it I dont think fitting more supportive seats would be hard.

Any advise appreciated, I have been reading the post about various motorsports on here :D

I have the kit needed to do a telescopic conversion. I can make a set up for you if you like?

Fit a manta/cav rear axle. They fit quite well. Once i've got mine on the road i'm going to re do the axle using the manta arms and fit coil springs and upright dampers.

'A fast car gets you lost quicker' I love that but its so true

My Dad was my Nav last time as he used to do it when he was younger for Wakefield and District MC, only thing was he struggled with reading and not looking out so ended up very ill  Maybe my Driving too though dont think he was relaxed

I live near Market Rasen now and would be interested in finding out a bit more aboiut local stuff. I loved doing scatters, they were good fun

PCT's are the other option. Most of the ones you see in the pics are old RWD cars or Novas... maybe can do a bit of everything except auto tests cant see it being overly good at them

Thought I'd bring this post to the top again.
I still think we should get a few rally prep Marinas together for a thrash round somewhere.
Mine's in bits at the mo being re-built.
